Researching Your Motor Car

Many seek to find the history of their motorcar. It can be a rewarding experience but is often challenging and may not always be successful.

Start with the build records

We are fortunate that the original documents associated with ordering and building our cars still exist. Even better, they are available as digital documents. You may find the original specifications of your car and test reports compiled during construction at the factory by the mechanics and engineers. They are often referred to as “Hunt House Records” since they are maintained by the Sir Henry Royce Memorial Foundation located at Hunt House, High Street, Paulerspury, Northamptonshire, NN12 7NA, GB.

These documents are available for a fee from the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club (RREC) Archive Services in the UK.  Click the link above to get started.

Here are examples of the records for chassis number 89K1 (click for larger version).
